Nature is so sweet

Anyone who cares at all about where their is food is coming from probably knows that fruit season is in full effect.
The kids and I were so stoked to go to Blue Berry Knoll to pick some raspberries!  Ok the truth is I was super stoked and the kids were less than enthusiastic at 9am.
Taya insisted on having the front seat in the VW since the top was down and lucky for her Tristan was in a good mood and let her have the seat without a fight.
The sky had just the right amount of cloudy to keep us the perfect temperature while we picked.

I have to say it was super hard not eat every berry that we picked but eventually our little quarts filled up.  One of the greatest things about picking your own fruit is that you get to chill out in the farmers field with friends or family or just alone with your thoughts, but on top of that you get fruit at its peak.  You pick which berries you want basically insuring that every berry in your quart is edible (good bang for your buck) ……you’re not stuck with some fruit that was sprayed with god knows what,  picked way to early and ripened on a truck while traveling from another country.  I’m not sure where we as a society starting to go wrong but I feel like there is change coming about.  Maybe it starts with us caring where our food comes from, caring what we put into our bodies I’m not sure.  What I am sure of it ends with our farmers.  You have heard the phrase before farmers feed cities!  I would just prefer that the farmer that feeds me is local.  That might mean I wont be able to eat strawberries all winter unless I buy frozen but you know what I think I could learn to live with that.  My grandmother died at the age of 102 she was born in 1902 she ate what her family grew and what they canned/preserved.  They had the right idea.  Judging by her age when she passed away I think that her health was better because of her way of living.  We live in a beautiful country which happens to have the ability to sustain us very well, so lets keep those hard working under appreciated farmers working!!!  Lets eat better!

We are totally worth it!

The kids and I went to Blueberry Knoll its a great place to pick your own fruit, buy homemade pies and when their corn is in season it is the best corn you will ever taste!

Who doesn’t love a good surprise!

Working on a Saturday when my husband is off can suck…but hey that’s how it goes sometimes.  Matt and I try to make the most out of the free time that we have to spend together with the kids.
Friday night we spent the night on the boat.  Tristan was out with a friend and Taya was working late.  It was a perfect night, warm with a nice breeze that kept the bugs away and just the right temp for a good nights sleep!
Saturday morning Matt and I debated on going for a sail before I had to go into work but decided against it.  So we choose to go looking for a patio set for a porch we have off of our second floor.  There wasn’t a lot to choose from and some of the prices were crazy high.  We stumble into one of my least favorite stores…..walmart and found a deal on four chairs and an outdoor rug, and at Target we found lots of fun Beaver Canoe accessories and 4 colorful  ottomans that we made into a table.  I actually can’t believe what we were able to fit into our lil VW Cabrio.
We could only 2 of the four chairs so Matt had to head back to Walmart while I went off to work.

I work with some pretty great people so the day was going by at a good pace and there were lots of laughs while we were working away.  On my break I grabbed my phone to see if I had any texts and Matt had texted saying he had a surprise for me.  I was guessing that he set up everything we had bought, and I couldn’t wait to come home and see what he had done.

Once I was all done work I practically sprinted home to find Matt on the 2nd floor porch he had put the chairs together, put the carpet down, put the ottomans in a pattern to create our table where he had bought candles and a cool tray that totally finished our little slice of serenity.  Could I have been more stoked????  Hell no!  My Matt is the shit and I never forget for one second how lucky I am!

Time to relax before we get back to the grind that Mondays bring.

Have a blissful night!

Our Chill Space

Our Chill Space

Since I was up anyway……

I hit the market at 7am this morning.
If it hadn’t been for Matt needing a ride to work I probably would have skipped the market and slept in until I had to go to work.  Waking up at the very second and rushing to get dressed and then to run out of time before having a chance to make my lunch.  NOT TODAY!!!!

Today at 7am the market was just coming to life.  It was kinda beautiful to me honest.  The farmers were the only ones walking around that didn’t look like zombies off of the set of the Walking Dead.  I can’t even begin to guess what time these amazing people get up to pack their trucks and head to the market.  The colours displayed on every stand and table were stunning.  Hard to believe that nature makes all this yummy food.

I spent about $20.00 and came home with fresh mouth watering veggies, huge farm fresh eggs (our chickens haven’t started laying eggs yet), and a bunch of pretty flowers.  I haven’t even eaten any of the loot I grabbed and I can already hear my body saying way to go!!!!

Since I am no longer in a rush I pulled out the spiral grinder and made some zucchini noodles for mine and Taya’s lunch today.  Tristan’s heading out for the next two days with a friend to wakeboard and watch some pro wake skaters in Sarnia…..while Taya, Matt and I will be working!  So this lunch should be some good fuel for our bodies today!

Go get some asparagus its already the last week for these yummy lil trees!

Lake, Boards and Friends

Loving how this summer is shaping up so far!

My day started off with my boss changing her NO to a Yes for a day off that I had requested so that I could watch my son compete in a wakeboarding contest on Saturday.  Really could may day get any better????  Well my friends it totally did.

My friend Lisa and I took our two sons and a cousin to Boarder Pass for a wakeboard session.  The clouds played nice and didn’t drop any rain on us and the boys had a great time.  Tristan over came a fear today.  With the help of BP owner Chris and of course Tristans huge balls he got on a rail!  On his second try he 180’d out and made it look good.  Proud momma moment for sure.

Tristan and I rounded out our awesome day with veggie burgers with Grandma at Harvey’s…mmmm mmm!  Now he’s off skateboarding in a secret location.

Hope everyone had a beautiful day!
